What is diode laser hair removal?
Diode laser hair removal is a non-invasive light therapy which eliminates unwanted hair from all parts of the body. The diode laser generates light at a wavelength of 800 mm or 810 mm and penetrates deep into the hair follicles without damaging the upper layers of the skin. Due to such higher wavelength, diode laser hair removal is preferred by experts and gives excellent results on darker skin.
How does the treatment work?
Diode laser hair removal works by destroying the roots of the hair. A cooling gel is applied on the skin and diode laser light is guided through a chill-tip to the hair roots. The laser enters into the skin and makes it to the hair follicles, destroying hundreds of them at the same time. When the gel is removed, most of the hairs are wiped out and the remaining fall out within a week or two. Patient may feel a slight tingling sensation during the procedure. However, certain body areas are sensitive to the laser and a topical anesthetic can be applied to decrease the uneasiness even further. Laser has an outstanding speed with high efficiency. A complete facial treatment can take just 10 minutes where as legs or a back may take 20 minutes. Number of sittings depends upon the hair color & area of the body which has to be treated. Several sittings may be required depending from patient to patient.
Are the Results Permanent?
Yes. In most of the patients, 90% of permanent hair reduction happens. Diode laser hair removal is considered advantageous to many who want to undergo through painless removal of undesired hair. The treatment is comfortable with little or no irritation and has minimal risk of side effects.
What happens after the treatment?
Within few minutes, the area treated becomes bit red or puffy. This reaction settles within a day or two and becomes normal. Patients often feel a slight sensation of mild sunburn for the first day. Diode lasers are non-invasive, thus bandages are not required and most patients can resume normal routine immediately. Still, it is advised not to arrange any social engagements during the first two weeks of the treatment, especially if the treatment is taken on the face.
Doctor may prescribe a mild cream to be applied on the areas which are treated for 2-3 days after the treatment. After a week or so, patient may experience what seems to be hair re-growth. These are actually the treated hair which are being shed and not re-growing. During the treatments, patients should not wax or pluck hairs as it decreases the ability of the lasers to efficiently destroy the hair growth actively.
